How to Make Hash

How to make hash comes down to one job: getting the resin heads off the plant and nothing else. You can sift them dry through screens, wash them off in ice water, lift them with static, or rub and press them by hand. Each method trades speed for purity.

How is hash made? The methods compared

How hash is made depends on what you start with, but the hash making process is the same idea every time: free the resin heads, then collect them. Dried and cured material suits screens and hand methods; material frozen the day it’s cut suits ice water. The table puts the methods side by side.

MethodWhat you needWhat you get
Dry siftDried flower or trim, stacked screens, a cold roomKief up to high-grade sift
Ice water hashBubble Bags, a bucket, ice and cold waterBubble hash, up to full melt
Static siftGood dry sift, screens and a static chargeThe cleanest heads from dry material
Hand-rubbed and pressedHands, heat and timeCharas, temple balls, pressed hash
RosinA press, heat and rosin bagsHash rosin or flower rosin

Every method starts from the same raw material: trichomes, the resin glands on the flowers and sugar leaves. That is what hash is, however you collect it, and it is why the plant matters more than the gear. Some strains wash into piles of resin and others barely give any. Bubbleman has worked through all of it live, every Sunday since 2014, in the Hash Church episodes.

How to make hash at home

How to make hash at home starts with what you already have. The kief a grinder catches can be pressed into hash by hand, dry sift needs only stacked screens and a cold room, and ice water hash needs a bucket, ice, cold water and bags.

How to make hash from flower

How to make hash from flower depends on how the flower was kept: dried and cured flower goes through screens for dry sift, and flower frozen the day it was cut goes into ice water for bubble hash.
