Hash rosin is a solventless concentrate made by pressing bubble hash, or dry sift, between heated plates through a fine 15 to 37 micron bag. Pressed from hash washed out of fresh frozen plants, it is called live hash rosin. It costs more than flower rosin because it takes a wash, a dry and a press to make.
What is hash rosin?
Hash rosin is rosin pressed from hash rather than from flower. Most of it is bubble hash rosin, pressed from ice water hash; some is dry sift rosin, pressed from sifted kief; and when the bubble hash was washed out of fresh frozen plants, the result is live hash rosin. All of it is solventless: water to make the hash, heat and pressure to make the rosin.
How ice water hash rosin is made
Ice water hash rosin is made by pressing fully dried bubble hash at low heat. The Press Club’s starting point: a 15 to 37 micron rosin bag, about 160 to 190 °F, 350 to 750 psi at the bag, and 60 to 90 seconds, with returns of 60 to 70 percent and up. Low Temp presses colder still, around 140 to 180 °F, for longer, to keep more of the terpenes. The step by step is in how to make hash rosin.
Why hash rosin costs more
Hash rosin costs more than flower rosin because of everything that happens before the press. The plant has to be washed into bubble hash, the hash has to be dried for a week or freeze dried, and the press then takes back part of its weight again. It is slower, needs more equipment and only works with plants that wash well, but what comes out is the cleanest rosin there is.
Hash rosin grades
Hash rosin grades follow the hash it was pressed from. Most hash that gets pressed is 4 or 5 star on the hash star rating, and it makes beautiful rosin. True six star full melt is rarely pressed at all; it is usually smoked as it is, because it already melts completely and presses back to almost exactly the same thing.
Hash rosin vs live rosin vs flower rosin
Hash rosin vs live rosin vs flower rosin is a question of what was pressed: hash from dried plants, hash from fresh frozen plants, or the flower itself. The side by side is in hash rosin vs live rosin.
Hash rosin and the hash it came from
Hash rosin and the hash it came from belong together, as Bubbleman sees it. His wish is to walk into a store and buy the flower, the hash and the rosin from the same plant, side by side, because when hash has been grown exceptionally, it is one of the highest caliber products you can get.

Season 12, Episode 14, Skully Vibes draws live
Do I love rosin? Absolutely. I think rosin’s awesome. I think rosin should almost always be accompanied by the hash it was squished from… I would love to go to a store and buy the flower, the hash, and the rosin and see.

Season 12, Episode 19, Live from The Reserve, Denver
I love rosin. I’ve smoked some incredible rosin, and I know some of the best rosin I’ve smoked have not always come from a six-star bubble. Very few people press six-star into rosin. It’s almost like you got to be crazy to do it.

Hash rosin questions
Hash rosin questions, answered short:
What is hash rosin?
Hash rosin is rosin pressed from hash, usually bubble hash, instead of flower. It is solventless: made with water, heat and pressure only.
What is live hash rosin?
Live hash rosin is hash rosin pressed from bubble hash that was washed out of fresh frozen plants, which keeps more of the living plant’s terpenes.
How is hash rosin made?
Hash rosin is made by pressing fully dried bubble hash or dry sift in a 15 to 37 micron bag at about 160 to 190 °F, with gentle, rising pressure.
Is bubble hash rosin the same as hash rosin?
Yes, bubble hash rosin is the most common hash rosin. Ice water hash rosin and ice hash rosin mean the same thing.
Is hash rosin better than flower rosin?
Hash rosin is usually cleaner and more flavorful than flower rosin, because the hash has already left the leaf and plant oils behind. Flower rosin is quicker and cheaper to make.
