Hash vs Weed: Strength, Effects and How They Differ

Hash vs weed comes down to concentration. Weed is the whole dried flower; hash is only its resin, so gram for gram it carries far more THC.

From the EU drugs agency’s potency data and Bubbleman’s own hash on Hash Church.

Hash is stronger than weed. Weed is the dried flower, leaves and all; hash is only the resin heads that hold the THC. In Europe, seized hash averaged 23 percent THC in 2023, about twice the 11 percent of herbal cannabis, and good hash runs well above that.

What is the difference between hash and weed?

The difference between hash and weed is how much of the plant is left. Weed is the dried and cured flower. Hash is what you get when the resin heads on that flower are separated out and the rest of the plant is thrown away, so it is the same stuff, concentrated.

Is hash stronger than weed?

Yes, hash is stronger than weed, gram for gram. The EU drugs agency’s latest European Drug Report puts seized hash at an average of 23 percent THC in 2023, against about 11 percent for herbal cannabis, and resin has been getting stronger every year while herbal has held steady.

Those are street averages. Hash made with care runs higher: Bubbleman puts his pure hash joints at about 35 percent THC and good traditional hash at 35 to 40 percent, and the top grades of bubble hash can test at over 70 percent THCA.

Hash vs weed high: what’s the difference?

The difference between a hash high and a weed high is mostly dose, because both come from the same cannabinoids and terpenes. A hit of hash carries more THC than a hit of flower.

Hash effects

Hash effects come on stronger than flower’s, so they are easier to overdo. Pressed, traditional hash is often described as a heavier, more relaxing smoke, but the plant it came from shapes the effect more than the form does. Start with less than you would with flower.

Smoking hash vs smoking weed

Smoking hash takes a little more care than smoking weed. Hash doesn’t stay lit on its own as easily as flower, so most people crumble it into a joint or over a bowl with flower, or use a vaporizer or a dab rig for the cleanest grades. Every way to do it is in how to smoke hash.

Hash vs weed price

Hash costs more than weed per gram, because it takes many grams of plant to make one gram of resin. What you are paying for is concentration, so compare price against strength and quality, not just weight. A gram of good hash goes a lot further than a gram of flower.

Hash or weed: which to choose

Hash or weed comes down to what you want from a session. Flower gives a longer, lighter smoke; hash gives more flavor and more strength from a small amount, and pressed hash keeps far longer in the jar. Plenty of smokers skip the weed vs hash choice and do both at once: a little hash crumbled over flower is one of the oldest ways there is.

Hash vs weed questions

Hash vs weed questions, answered short:

Is hash stronger than weed?

Yes, hash is stronger than weed: in Europe in 2023, seized hash averaged 23 percent THC against about 11 percent for herbal cannabis. Well made hash runs higher still.

Is the hash high different from a weed high?

The hash high comes from the same cannabinoids as a weed high, so it feels similar, only stronger per hit. Pressed traditional hash is often described as heavier and more relaxing.

Can you mix hash and weed?

Yes, you can mix hash and weed, and it’s the most common way to smoke hash: crumble a little into a joint or over a packed bowl.

Why is hash more expensive than weed?
